Christian County Fends Off Hopkinsville in Four Sets

The Christian County Lady Colonels will play for the 8th District championship for the second year in a row following their semifinal win Tuesday night. The Lady Colonels advanced to the title match by battling their way past Hopkinsville in four sets at Colonel Gym.

The opening set was a battle down to the wire. The two teams went back and forth with neither able to gain separation from the other. With the set even at 25-25, Christian County was able to score back-to-back points and win the set 27-25 to go up one set to none.

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers rebounded in a big way in the second. With the set even at 3-3, Hoptown ripped off five straight points to claim an 8-3 lead. The margin would grow to as much as 20-7 with Hoptown going on to claim a 25-12 to even the match at one set each.

The third set, like the first, was a tight battle throughout. With a 22-20 lead Christian County was finally able to put the set away by scoring three straight to win 25-20 and go up two sets to one in the match.

Hoptown hung with the Lady Colonels in the fourth set but could never quite get to the front. Christian County was holding a 21-20 lead late in the fourth set and was then able to score the final four points of the set to get a 25-20 win and close out the match three sets to one.

Hailey Sparks had 14 kills, 6 aces, 16 digs, and one assist to lead Christian County. Chantelle Haby finished the match with 28 assists. Rylee Owens added 25 digs and 5 aces. Skylar Kirby had five kills and four aces. NeVaeh Day had six kills and a block for Christian County.

Christian County improves to 11-12 with the win. Hopkinsville ends their season at 9-23.

Christian County and UHA will meet in the 8th District championship game Thursday evening at 6:00pm. The two teams met in the final last season, with UHA coming out with a three sets to one win.
