Just as they did the last time the two teams met in Wildcat Gym, the Trigg County volleyball team took the opening set against Livingston Central before falling 3-1 in the 5th-District semifinals on Tuesday night.
Livingston Central moved on to the championship match against Crittenden County, falling 3-0 to the Lady Rockets. It was Crittenden’s fourth-straight title dating back to 2017 when Trigg County last raised the trophy.
Livingston Central jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the opening set but the Lady Wildcats battled back to tie it up at 16-16 after a kill by Jhade Vaughn. The set was tied seven more times, with the last coming at 25-25, before Keegan Greenwood delivered an ace and the Lady Wildcats picked up the last point to take a 1-0 lead.
Trigg carried the momentum into the second set and led 4-1 on a kill by Megan Hicks and an ace by Grace White. However, the Lady Cardinals tied the set at 5-5 ahead of a 9-1 spurt to take control and rolled to a 25-10 victory.
After scoring the first two points, the Lady Wildcats trailed throughout in the third set. Trigg pulled to within three points at 12-9 after a kill by Ashlynn Koch, but Livingston closed strong with a 13-6 run for a 2-1 lead.
Once again, the Lady Wildcats led early in the fourth, but the Lady Cardinals used another run to surge in front 16-9. Trigg got as close as four points, but Livingston took the last six points to close out the match.
Trigg County ends the season at 5-27 overall, while Livingston advances to the 2nd Region tournament with a record of 5-16.
