SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Trenton Hayes

While the last year has been one to forget for many due to the global pandemic, Heritage Christian Academy’s Trenton Hayes will see things a little differently.

Hayes and the HCA baseball team claimed the KCAA baseball state title in May, going undefeated and outscoring the opposition 96-16.  The Warriors capped the season with a 12-0 win over Assumption Academy in the state title game.

Just as they did on the diamond, Hayes and the HCA soccer team enjoyed a dominant season on the pitch, never tasting defeat on the way to the program’s first KCAA state championship.

The Warriors once again found Assumption Academy standing between them and the trophy, with Hayes playing the hero with the lone goal of the match with fifteen minutes remaining to capture the title.

Just as he was in baseball, Hayes was named to the KCAA All-State soccer team, while also earning the MVP Award for his performance in the title match.

As Hayes prepares for the upcoming HCA basketball season, YSE’s Scott Brown caught up with him to discuss the Warriors’ incredible run.
