2nd Region Volleyball Tourney Starts Monday

Heading into this week’s regional volleyball action, the big question in the 2nd Region is whether or not anyone can prevent Henderson County from taking home the big trophy Thursday night. The 2nd Region volleyball tournament gets underway with a pair of matches Monday evening.

Monday night’s matches will have Henderson County hosting Christian County, while Madisonville-North Hopkins hosts Livingston Central.

Henderson County, the champions of the 6th District, comes into the week at 27-9, having won six of their last seven matches. Christian County, 8th District runner-up, is 11-13. The Lady Colonels from the south have won 7 of their last 10 matches. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.

Monday night’s other match has Livingston Central traveling to Madisonville. The Lady Maroons ended Caldwell County’s reign as 7th District champions and come into the tournament at 20-8. Madisonville has won 7 of their last 8, including two wins over Caldwell County and a win over Apollo. Livingston Central, runner-up in the 5th District, is 6-15. The Lady Cardinals have one just one of their last seven matches. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.

The final two quarterfinal round matches will be played at the site of district winners on Tuesday evening and will have Crittenden County hosting Caldwell County and University Heights hosting Webster County.

Crittenden County, the winner of the 5th District, comes into the postseason at 15-10. The Lady Rockets are 2-5 over their last seven matches. Caldwell County, who finished as the 7th District runner-up, is 19-18 on the season. The Lady Tigers are 3-5 over their last eight matches. Caldwell County swept Crittenden County in both of their regular-season matchups.

University Heights, the 8th District champion, comes into the regional tournament at 20-13. The Lady Blazers have won 5 of their last seven matches. Webster County, 6th District runner-up, is 17-15, having won three of their last four contests. The Lady Blazers and the Lady Trojans met twice this season, with UHA winning 2-0 and 3-1.

The regional semifinals are set for Wednesday at Crittenden County High School. The championship match will be Thursday night at Crittenden County.
