Trigg County’s Austin Cavanaugh blazed to his second straight 2A Region 1 cross country title and Timmy Cannon added a top-10 finish on Saturday, helping the Wildcats to a 2nd-place showing and a spot in next week’s state meet.
Cavanaugh ran a personal record 16:24.37, leaving 13 seconds between him and Calloway County’s Daniel Puckett in 2nd place. Cannon was next for the Wildcats, finishing in 17:18.89 in 7th place.
Marshall Jenkins finished 10th with an 18:01.97, followed closely by River Oliver in 11th with a 18:02.06. Riley Thompson’s run of 18:41.19 put him in 18th, 7th-grader Travis Cavanaugh was 20th with a time of 18:43.12, and Joseph Crawford finished 33rd in 21:36.01.
The Wildcats totaled 47 points and an average time of 17:41 to finish runners-up to Webster County. The Trojans placed three runners in the top-5, led by Trevor Baker in 3rd with a 16:54.55.
