Looking to bounce back from another 13th-District championship loss to Logan County, the Todd County Central volleyball team instead ran into a Purple buzzsaw on Monday night in the opening round of the 4th-Region tournament.
The Lady Rebels’ all-time drought in the region tournament continues after a 3-0 loss to 14th-District champions Bowling Green. The Purples improve to a region-best 30-6 and advance to face Clinton County on Wednesday. Todd Central ends the season at 22-14 overall, the highest win total in program history.
Bowling Green held a narrow advantage early in the first set before a 15-2 run gave the Purples a 20-6 lead after back-to-back aces by Claire Lawless.
Trailing 1-0, Todd Central scored the first two points of the second set before falling victim to another Bowling Green spurt. Amirra Bailey had three kills and the Purples built a 15-8 advantage before the Lady Rebels clawed their way back to within five points after a block by Lucy Chester. But Bowling Green outscored Todd 9-3 the rest of the way to take the second set.
The Purples didn’t waste any time taking control in the third, jumping out to a 12-3 lead and then doubling up the Lady Rebels at 20-10. Todd Central got as close as seven points at 22-15. but Bowling Green got a kill and an ace from Elizabeth Maglinger and scored the last three points to close out the match.
