A Stevens in the Tiger football lineup predates both Caldwell County High School and its predecessor, Princeton Butler High School.

The Stevens family was represented on what is believed to be Princeton High School’s first football team in 1911.

That tradition conditions with senior Jack Stevens who, like his father and grandfather, is a Tiger quarterback.

Jack’s dad John H. not only was a QB in the 1990s but has been an assistant coach in the Tiger football program.

Jack’s grandfather Irl was the quarterback of Caldwell’s state championship football team in 1963. Irl Stevens also went on to be an assistant football coach for the Tigers and was a longtime head coach of the Caldwell baseball team.

Jack has helped guide this year’s Tiger team to a 7-3 record and wins in six of its last seven games after a bit of a slow start to the season.

The younger Stevens is on the field for almost every play from scrimmage, starting at free safety on the defensive side of the football in addition to his quarterbacking duties.

Stevens has passed for 755 yards and seven touchdowns this season. He is second on the team in rushing with 269 yards and five touchdowns.

Defensively, Stevens ranks fourth on the team in tackles with 57 on the season.

Stevens and the Tigers enter postseason play this Friday night with a trip to Murray.

Kickoff time is set for 7:00 in the Class 2A matchup at Ty Holland Stadium.
