Lyon County catcher Brody Williams committed to Kent State well over a year ago.

Williams kept that promise on Wednesday, officially signing with the Mid-American Conference school in a ceremony in the district conference room at Lyon.

Teammates Gunnar Bingham and Jackson Shoulders also signed on the dotted line Wednesday, with Murray State and Kentucky Wesleyan, respectively.

The trio helped lead Lyon County to its first 2nd Region baseball championship in June.

The Lyons put together a late-season 10-game winning streak that saw them reach the state semifinals in Lexington before bowing to eventual state champion Louisville Trinity.

The Lyons will be among the favorites in the region again in the spring of 2022, keyed by the three senior signees.

Williams hit .358 this past season as the Lyons won a school-record 30 games while falling just eight times.

Williams slammed 10 home runs and drove in 38 for a Lyon offense that averaged over 7.6 runs a game.

Add in his strong defense behind the plate, and Williams was named third-team all-state by the state’s baseball coaches.

Williams will join a Kent State program that has recorded 22-straight full seasons of 30-plus wins. The Golden Flashes were 30-26 this past year, including a 23-17 showing in the MAC.
