Emma Talley entered play on the LPGA Tour this week looking to make two cuts.

She has successfully made the first one, and will play this weekend in the Pelican Women’s Championship in Belleair, Florida.

That should go a long way to helping her clear her next hurdle — qualifying for next week’s CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.

The Tour Championship is limited to the top 60 players in the Race to the CME Globe point standings. Talley entered the Pelican Women’s Championship just under that cutline at No. 60 on the points list.

The CME Group Tour Championship is a no-cut event with a purse of $5 million. By comparison, the purse for the Pelican Women’s Championship is $1.75 million.

Talley has carded back-to-back rounds of even-par 70 in the first two rounds in Belleair, near Tampa.

She needed a birdie on her 15th hole on Friday (No. 6 since she started the day on No. 10) to go from 1-over to even, then parred the last three holes to hit the cutline on the number.

Talley, who is tied for 66th, will tee off in the third round at 10:42 a.m. Eastern time Saturday morning.

Another player to keep an eye on is Yu Liu, who starts at 9:47 a.m. Eastern time. Liu started play this week No. 62 on the Race to the CME Globe points list. She is currently projected to finish 61st but could move into the top 60 with a strong finish, potentially knocking Talley from next week’s season-ender.
