Lyon County recognized its top soccer performers during the team’s awards banquet Sunday afternoon at the Lee S. Jones Convention Center.
The Lady Lyons set a program record for wins, going 15-3-2 in the 2021 season. Lyon’s girls won the 5th District championship before falling in the first round of the 2nd Region tournament.
Award winners included Rose Smith, Heart of a Lyon MVP, Goal Leader; Leah Schroeder, Versatility Award, Best Ball Control; Samantha Hooper, Best Defender; Alice Smith, Assist Leader; Maddie Russell, Best Defender; Anna White, Most Improved; Kyndal Hubbard, Most Improved; Avery White, Rookie of the Year; Olivia Adams, 110% Award; and Mary Beth Davis, Sportsmanship Award.
Junior varsity award winners were Richmond Herring, JV Heart of a Lyon; Edie Jones, Goal Leader, Assist Leader; Kayla Dunn, Goal Leader; Karli Patterson, Best Defender; Zihniyah Knight, Best Defender; Hadi Thomas, Rookie of the Year; and Allie Holt, Most Improved.
Letterman recipients were Haley Collier, Avery White, Kyndal Hubbard, Alice Smith and Anna White.
The Lady Lyons had three all-region players honored — Rose Smith, Leah Schroeder and Alice Smith. Five all-district players were recognized — Rose Smith, Leah Schroeder, Maddie Russell, Alice Smith and Samantha Hooper.
In addition, Lady Lyon head coach Abby Smith was honored for being named 2nd Region Coach of the Year.
Meanwhile, award winners for Lyon’s guys, who went 2-18 this year, included Luke Gilbert, Heart of a Lyon MVP, Rookie of the Year; Timothy Taylor, Goal Leader; Deven Guess, Assist Leader; Colt Bannister, Assist Leader; Carlos Coronado, Assist Leader; Nathan Hague, Best Defender; Lukas Sperry, Most Improved; Walker Suitor, Most Improved, Best Ball Control; Jackson Crawford, Versatility Award; Levi Willis, Versatility Award; Brandon Ray, 110% Award; and William Padilla, Sportsmanship Award.
Junior varsity award winners were Jackson Crawford, Heart of a Lyon MVP; Colt Bannister, Goal Leader; Deven Guess, Assist Leader; Kooper McDowell, Best Defender; and Jonah Reddick, Rookie of the Year.
Letter recipients were Luke Gilbert, Jaksen McDowell, Jonah Reddick and Bryan Porter.
