Madisonville-North Hopkins High School senior Camryn LaGrange has been named a 2021 Heisman High School scholarship winner for Kentucky. She is one of two athletes statewide to earn the honor.

This honor is in recognition of outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.

The Heisman High School Scholarship program extends the Heisman prestige to the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by celebrating and rewarding outstanding male and female scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories happen not only on the field but also in their schools and communities.

Eligibility begins with maintaining a weighted GPA of 3.0 (B average) or better. Applicants also need to be proven leaders and role models within their school and community. And applicants must participate or have participated in grades 9, 10, or 11 in at least one sport.

The high school Heisman Award was sponsored by Wendy’s for several years until Acceptance Insurance took over sponsorship of the award in 2020.

LaGrange will receive a $1,000 college scholarship and becomes a national finalist with a chance to win more scholarship money.

LaGrange was voted player of the year by the Second Region coaches and was named to the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State First Team.

LaGrange scored 47 goals and handed out 32 assists in helping the Lady Maroons to a 16-6-1 record and a trip to the region championship game.

She finishes her career as Madisonville’s all-time leading scorer with 146 goals despite missing most of her junior season with a knee injury.  She currently ranks eighth all-time among Second Region players.

Last week, she signed her scholarship letter to continue her soccer career at Western Kentucky University.
