After a rebuilding year with a young team last season, head coach Amanda Scott returns her starting five intact for the 2021-22 basketball season at Dawson Springs.

Four juniors and a senior are back after gaining a lot of varsity experience as the Lady Panthers went 2-14 last season.

“I will have back all returning starters (Macy Drennan, Gracie Harper, Abby Ward, Brylee Spurlin and Natalee Oldham) as well as several experienced players coming off the bench who will add depth to our bench,” noted Scott.

Ward was the top scorer last season with 14.6 points a game. She was second in rebounding with 5.8 boards a contest.

Harper scored 9.3 points a game while Drennan netted 5.9 points a night.
Spurlin, the only senior in that first five, led the team on the glass with 6.4 rebounds a contest.

“Maddie Huddleston will take on a bigger role this year in rebounding and scoring coming off the bench,” said Scott. “Trinity Randolph is back after taking two years off and brings with her good defense and ability to drive to the basket.

“I also have a new assistant, Greg Harper, who I think will be a good addition to not only myself but to the girls.”

Junior Gracie Harper returns for the Lady Panthers after scoring 9.3 points a game last season.

The Lady Panthers will try to work into the mix this season in the 7th District, where Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkins County Central appear to be the top two teams heading into the new year.

“My hopes for the season are to improve our win percentage from last year and the players execute our offense and defense better, building off our momentum from the end of last season,” said Scott. “We knew last year would be a rebuilding season for us, given what we had lost. We improved greatly in our ability to handle the ball, with Macy Drennan taking on a point guard role and filling those shoes well last season.”

The Lady Panthers will open the 2021-22 season on the road with a trip to Christian Fellowship School in Marshall County on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Dawson Springs’ girls will play their first home game on Friday, Dec. 3, against Lyon County.
