After the COVID shortened season of 2021 that also saw them play without their top player, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons looked the part of a 2nd Region contender Tuesday night in their preseason scrimmage against the Todd County Central Lady Rebels. The Lady Maroons won each of the four varsity quarters, outscoring the Lady Rebels 72-32 in total in the contest played at Browning Springs Middle School in Madisonville.

Madisonville used a solid shooting performance and defensive pressure to control the scrimmage from beginning to end. The first quarter was all Lady Maroons as Madisonville took the quarter 19-2.

The Lady Rebels were able to deal with the pressure defense a bit better in the second quarter, especially in the early moments of the quarter. Still, the Lady Maroons would win the second 21-10.

Todd County Central was able to contain the Lady Maroons’ offense better in the third quarter. However, the Lady Rebels still struggled to get the ball to go in the basket. Madisonville would outscore Todd Central 13-6 in the third.

The Lady Rebels had their best quarter of the night in the final varsity quarter. Todd Central was able to put up 14 points in the quarter, but it was still the Lady Maroons taking the quarter by a score of 19-14.

Freshman Alexis Taylor led the Lady Rebels with 10 points. 8th grader Jamya Kay chipped in with six points. Lucy Chester was limited to three points but did come up with nine rebounds in the game.

Cold shooting and miscues plagued the Lady Rebels. They connected on just 13 of 36 from the field and 27 turnovers, 13 of those being steals by the Lady Maroon defense.

After missing last season due to a knee injury, senior Camryn LaGrange paced Madisonville with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jaycee Noffsinger added 15 points, while Amari Lovan scored 11 points and had 5 rebounds.

Madisonville shot 29 of 58 from the field, including 6 of 17 from behind the arc.

Todd County Central officially gets the season rolling Monday night on the road at Trigg County.

The Lady Maroons open the season November 30 on the road at Union County.
