Lyons to Play 2021 Final Four Team at King of the Bluegrass

The Lyon County Lyons will tangle with one of the teams expected to contend for a state championship in their opening-round matchup at the Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass at Fairdale High School in December. The Lyons will take on Ashland in the first round of the tournament at 9pm, Saturday, December 18.

The Tomcats reached the semifinals of the Sweet 16 last season before falling to eventual state champion Highlands 66-50. Ashland beat Knox Central 56-38 and Boyle County 80-44 on their way to the semifinal round.

The Tomcats return three double-figure scorers from last season’s team. Cole Villers averaged 22.7 points a game. Colin Porter added 17.8 ppg, while Ethan Sellars also averaged double-figures at 13.5.

Lyon County’s second game in the King of the Bluegrass would be against either Male or Belfry, Sunday, December 19, at 9pm. The Lyons are already set to take on Male on December 11 at Muhlenberg County.

Other teams appearing in this year’s event include Marion County, Covington Catholic, Trinity, North Laurel, Eastern, North Oldham, Dunbar, George Rogers Clark, Lake Highland (FL), Dorman (SC), Ensworth (TN), as well as the host Fairdale Bulldogs.

The King of the Bluegrass runs December 17 through December 21.
