Dee Cain had seven tackles on Saturday to help Western Kentucky University earn a berth in the Conference USA championship game.
Cain, a former Caldwell County High School standout and senior linebacker at WKU, had three solo tackles and four assists in the Hilltoppers 53-21 victory at Marshall.
The victory gives Western Kentucky the Conference USA East Division championship and means the Hilltoppers will travel to Texas San Antonio for a Friday showdown for the conference championship.
It was the seventh-straight win for Western Kentucky, which is now 8-4 overall and 7-1 in league play.
However, Marshall (7-5, 5-3) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in Huntington, W.Va., and led 14-6 at halftime.
But the Hilltoppers ran off 36 straight points to build a 36-14 lead early in the fourth quarter and were well on their way to the conference title tilt.
Western Kentucky will play UTSA (11-1, 7-1) at 6 p.m. Friday in the Alamodome for the 2021 Conference USA championship. The contest will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
The Road Runners won 52-46 when the two teams hooked up during the regular season, Oct. 9, in Bowling Green.
