There are a lot of questions surrounding the 2021–22 Trigg County boys’ basketball team. Third-year coach Chad Burgett hopes those questions are answered by the time the postseason rolls around in February.

The Wildcats will rely on senior forward Kendric Adams, who can play all three frontcourt positions, and sophomore Jhaden Vaughn, who can play all five positions.

Adams averaged 7.3 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 48-percent from the field. Vaughn averaged 11.6 points and led the Wildcats on the glass with 8.8 boards per contest.

After those two, Burgett will be relying on a large collection of personnel that were role players last year. Sophomore Landon Stewart has looked good in the preseason, knocking down three 3-pointers and scoring 10 points against Dawson Springs last week.

Senior Khyran Vaughn showed flashes of being a consistent double-double performer last year. He averaged 8.1 points and 6.7 rebounds last year, and the Wildcats will need him to stay on the floor and out of foul trouble this year.

Senior Tyler Ahart proved to be one of Trigg County‘s best deep threats, knocking down 33 shots behind the arc for a 33-percent clip.

Trigg County can go quick at the guard position with junior Aquarius Gude, junior Kelsey Parham, and sophomore Jerimyah Shearer. Burgett can also throw in senior Dakota Lockard, who is out for his first season of basketball, Senior Aidan Moore, who missed last year with a knee injury, and junior Hunter Reynolds, who can also knock down the outside shot.

Junior Luke Washer will give the Wildcats some key frontline minutes this year as well.

Burgett wants to play up-tempo basketball, and the Wildcats have the speed to do just that. However, they will need to improve their ability to finish around the basket.

They also weren’t a good shooting team last year hitting just 41% from the field and 30% behind the arc. They also shot just 55% at the free-throw line which won’t win many games in the region.

Despite their offensive shortcomings, the Wildcats could use their size to force turnovers and get out on the break if they desire. Trigg County opens the season Monday at home against Logan County.
