The Christian County Lady Colonels got their new season off to a positive start Tuesday night. The Lady Colonels went on the road to Muhlenberg County and came back home with a tough 54-46 win over the Lady Mustangs.

Both teams had their struggles getting their offense going early on in the game. Christian County held Muhlenberg County to just two first quarter field goals, but could only come up with four of their own as the Lady Colonels took an 8-6 lead after one.

The Lady Colonels continued to battle offensive struggles in the second quarter. Muhlenberg County was able to get enough done at the free throw line to take an 18-16 lead at the break.

Both teams found their “sea legs” so to say in the third quarter. The two teams continued to go back-and-forth, with neither able to pull away from the other. The quarter ended with Muhlenberg County holding a narrow 32-31 lead going into the final eight minutes.

Led by the play of Mikayah Killebrew, the Christian County Lady Colonels got back to the lead in the 4th quarter. The Lady Colonels would then knock down enough free throws to inch their way out to the final 54-46 margin.

Killebrew ended the game with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and two steals. Sarah Harris added 8 points and 11 rebounds. NeVaeh Day had 7 points for Christian County.

Aven Profitt led all scorers in the game, finishing with 14 points for the Lady Mustangs. Brooklyn Stewart also hit double figures with ten points for Muhlenberg County.

The Lady Colonels return to action Friday when they host Greenwood.
