On January 31, 1986, Back to the Future was the number one movie at the box office. Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight had the number one song in America with ‘That’s What Friends Are For.’  Trigg County girls’ coach Cory Coble wasn’t even born yet, and that was the date of Trigg County’s last girls’ basketball win over Todd County Central.

The Lady Wildcats snapped a 28-game losing streak to the Lady Rebels Monday with a 51-45 overtime win at Wildcat Gym.

The back-and-forth affair saw Trigg County outscore Todd Central 8-2 in the extra period. To get the win, Olivia Noffsinger and Marleigh Reynolds teamed to score Trigg County‘s final 13 points including all eight in overtime. Reynolds finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Noffsinger added 17 points and five assists.

Up 45-43 with 1:15 left in overtime, Noffsinger drove the length of the floor and scored to give the Lady Wildcats a four-point cushion. Todd would get as close as three points with 38 seconds left on an Alexis Taylor bucket, but Trigg was able to hit four of six free throws to seal the win.

It was a back-and-forth contest that featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes. Trigg County’s biggest lead was six points in the first half while Todd County led 39-36 with 3:19 left in regulation.

Tajah Grubbs hit a pair of free throws and Noffsinger followed with a three-pointer to put Trigg up 41-39 with 2:41 left. Tied at 43, Todd County didn’t get a good look at the basket in the final seconds and the game moved to overtime.

Taylor battled first-half foul trouble but responded with 14 points and six rebounds for the Lady Rebels. Jamaia Coleman added 11 first-half points but was one of three Lady Rebels to foul out of the contest.

Abby Williams and Lucy Chester both scored five points with Chester grabbing 14 rebounds and Williams adding nine.

Trigg County went to the free throw line 33 times and made 18 while Todd County was 3 of 14 from the charity stripe.

The loss spoiled the coaching debut of Todd County Central’s Matt Fraliex, who will look for his first coaching win Friday at Caldwell County.

Trigg County will be back in action Thursday night at Wildcat Gym against Murray.
