Dee Cain Headed to Boca Raton Bowl With Hilltoppers

Caldwell County grad Dee Cain is headed to the Boca Raton Bowl with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

WKU announced on Sunday that it has accepted a bid to play in the 2021 RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 18, where the Hilltoppers (8-5) will face Appalachian State (10-3) of the Sun Belt Conference.

Kickoff at FAU Stadium is set for 10 a.m. CST.

The game will be aired nationally on ESPN.

This will be WKU’s second appearance in the Boca Raton Bowl. The Hilltoppers claimed a 51-31 victory over Memphis on Dec. 20, 2016.

The Boca Raton Bowl marks WKU’s eighth bowl game in the past 10 seasons and the 31st postseason contest in program history. The Hilltoppers are 4-3 in their previous seven FBS bowl games and 18-12 all-time in postseason contests.

Cain, a senior, had a big game on Friday night for the Hilltoppers in a 49-41 loss to Texas San Antonio in the Conference USA Championship Game at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

A linebacker, Cain tied for the team lead with 11 tackles. He recorded a team-best nine solo tackles and had two assists for his total of 11 stops.

For the season, Cain is tied for fifth on the team in total tackles with 53. He has 29 solo tackles and 24 assists. Cain also has 1.5 sacks and two interceptions this season.
