It’s been said that good defense can overcome flaws in your offense on the basketball court. Regardless of how St. Mary’s offense played Tuesday night, their defense was more than enough to lead the way.

The Vikings limited Fort Campbell to just one field goal in the second quarter and just one field goal in the 4th quarter as the Vikings cruised to a 59-21 win on post.

The Falcons hung around early in the game, trailing just 14-8 after the first quarter. The St. Mary defense then took charge in the second quarter. The Vikings would limit the Falcons to just two points in the second as they blew the lead out to 35-10 going into the half.

The Vikings kept the pedal down in the third quarter as the lead grew to 53-17 going into the final eight minutes. With the clock then in continuous mode, the final quarter played quickly as St. Mary pulled away for the 38 point win.

Aidan Blaszkowski was the top scorer for Fort Campbell with seven points. Dason Tate and Thomas Wood added four points each.

St. Mary’s Daniel Willett and Cade Fleming were the top scorers in the game with 12 points each.

With the loss, the Falcons drop to 1-3 on the season. Fort Campbell hits the road Thursday to take on the Mayfield Cardinals.
