From midway through the second quarter to midway point of the final quarter of their game against the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons Tuesday night, the Christian County Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Maroons 39-23. The problem was what took place in the opening 16 minutes and the final four minutes of the game.

Madisonville used a couple of runs early in the game to build a 31 point lead, and then just about the time the Lady Colonels looked as if they might complete a “Mardi Gras Miracle” type comeback, the Lady Maroons delivered a “chilling” 20-0 run in the final minutes of the game to roll out to an 88-51 win at Colonel Gym.

Using their pressure defense as the driving force, the Lady Maroons took a quick 12-2 lead in the opening moments of the contest. Madisonville would use a 10-0 run later in the quarter to extend the lead to 24-8 by quarter’s end. Camryn LaGrange had a huge start to the game, coming up with 11 points in the opening quarter.

Madisonville opened the second quarter by hitting the Lady Colonels with a 15-0 run to blow the lead out to 39-8. At that point, most in attendance were wondering at what point the running clock would kick in. However, the Christian County Lady Colonels had other thoughts.

Crashing the board and using defensive pressure of their own, the Lady Colonels began to battle their way back into the game. Christian County would finish the half outscoring the Lady Maroons 12-7 to cut the lead to 46-20 going into the break.

Destinee Catlett-Watkins and Anaysia Bagwell started to heat up in the second half and the Lady Colonels continued to chip away at the lead. Catlett-Watkins and Bagwell combined to score 14 points in the third quarter and Christian County trimmed the lead to 60-38 at quarter’s end.

Christian County opened the final quarter on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to just 62-47 with over four minutes to go. With Lady Colonel fans beginning to ponder a miracle, Madisonville-North Hopkins came up with a devasting run. The Lady Maroons would rip off a 20-0 run to rip out the heart of the comeback and take an 82-47 lead. From there, the Lady Maroons coasted out to the final 37 point margin.

Anaysia Bagwell headed the scoring list for Christian County with 18 points. Mikayah Killebrew also reached double figures with 16.
