Wildcats Drop First Game at Clarksville Christian

Trigg County ran into a hot-shooting Clarksville Christian team and suffered its first loss of the season, 63-56 on Monday.

The Centurions hit eight 3-pointers and knocked down 13 of 14 free throws to keep the Wildcats at bay the entire night. Trigg never led in the contest but twice battled back from eight-point deficits in the second half to tie the contest.

Michael Lawton scored five straight points for Clarksville Christian to push its lead to 45-34 with 2:28 left in the third quarter. Down by nine after three quarters, Jhaden Vaughn went to work and scored seven straight points to force a 52-52 tie with 2:57 left.

Cyler Middleton responded with a corner 3-pointer to push the Centurion lead back to three points.  Kendric Adams scored off a feed from Kelsey Parham to draw the Wildcats back to within one point. The bucket was the 1,000th point of Adams’ career, making him the 26th Wildcat to reach the milestone.

Clarksville Christian put the game away by hitting eight of eight free throws in the final minute as the Wildcats couldn’t draw closer than three points.

Lawton led all scorers with 25 points, including four 3-pointers and a 7 of 8 showing at the free throw line.

While their opponent was sharp from behind the arc, Trigg County held a 22-10 advantage in the paint.  Khyran Vaughn scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Jhaden Vaughn scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half and added nine rebounds, and Adams scored 10 points and handed out eight assists.

Clarksville Christian became the fifth school from Clarksville that Trigg County has played. Trigg is now 11-19 against those schools. Trigg has never played Northeast and Rossview.

Trigg County is back on the floor Tuesday at home against Caldwell County.
