The Mayfield Cardinals waited longer than most teams across the area to get their season started, but apparently that wait was worth it. The Cardinals limited the Fort Campbell Falcons to single-digit scoring in all four quarters on the way to a 60-26 win Thursday night.

The Cardinals took a 15-7 lead in the first quarter and kept on rolling from there. The lead would grow to 34-13 at the half. The Mayfield defense held the Falcons to three field goals in the first quarter and three more in the second.

The Mayfield defense tightened up even more in the third quarter, allowing the Falcons just one made field goal and a pair of free throws as the lead grew to 49-17.

Cardinal reserves saw most of the playing time in the final quarter as Mayfield pulled away for the final 34 point margin.

Tahlil Strayhorn was the leading scorer for Fort Campbell with eight points. He also had 11 rebounds in the contest. Dason Tate and Aidan Blaszkowski added five points each.

Mayfield was paced by Brajone Dabney with 15 points. Nolan Fulton also hit double figures with 11.

The Falcons struggled to find their shooting eye, as they connected on only 10 of 29 from the field, including 2 of 8 from behind the 3-point line.

Fort Campbell drops to 1-4 on the season with the loss. They are set to return to action Monday night when they host Montgomery Central.
