The Todd County Central girls basketball team welcomed winless Glasgow to Elkton on Thursday night, falling behind by double-digits in the 1st quarter to the hot-shooting Lady Scotties and seeing a 2nd-half comeback fall one point short in a 48-47 loss.

The Lady Rebels drop their second straight to slip to 1-4 while Glasgow notches its first victory after starting the season with four losses.

The Lady Scotties knocked down a trio of 1st-quarter three-pointers, building a 16-4 lead after a three-point play by Ashton Botts.  Abby Williams scored four points for the Lady Rebels, but after her foul at the buzzer, Glasgow’s Khloe Hale converted a pair of free throws for a 21-8 advantage.

Todd Central’s defense improved in the 2nd quarter, but baskets were still hard to come by as the teams combined for only 12 points.  The Lady Rebels’ Alexis Taylor put up the final four points of the half, and they trailed 27-14 at the break.

Taylor took over in the paint in the 3rd, and her putback with 3:28 left in the quarter got the Lady Rebels back within single digits at 33-25.  After Taylor cut the lead to five with a bucket in the lane with :30 left, Botts capped her 10-point quarter with a pair of free throws for a 41-34 score.

In the 4th quarter, Lucy Chester scored on back-to-back layups to force a Glasgow timeout with a 43-40 score, but Mia Cassady answered with a three-pointer out of the break for the Lady Scotties.

The score was 48-44 after Glasgow’s Kaidence Byrd hit two free throws with :6.6 remaining, and while Williams drilled a three-pointer just ahead of the buzzer, the Lady Rebels couldn’t get a timeout quickly enough afterward to extend the game.

Todd County Central will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host Monroe County in a doubleheader with the boys’ team.
