Union County showed why they can be a dangerous girls’ basketball team come February as they knocked down ten 3-pointers and handed Lyon County a 69-52 loss Thursday in Eddyville.

Amelia Mackey hit four of her six 3-pointers in the third quarter as Union County outscored Lyon 22-12 to turn a 5-point halftime lead into a 54-39 advantage after three quarters.  Mackey finished with 23 points and five rebounds.

Madison Morris added 12 points, six assists, and five rebounds as the Bravettes overcame a sluggish offensive start and moved the ball better against the Lyon zone in the second half.

Lyon fell behind by six points early and trailed 15-11 until Lexi Holland drilled a pair of threes, including one at the first quarter horn, to give Lyon a 17-15 lead. Morris led Union back with nine points in the quarter.

With the game tied at 21, Hadie Butler picked up her second foul with 4:11 left in the half and went to the Lyon bench. Union took advantage and built a six-point advantage.

Mackey’s third quarter treys extended the Union lead to 15 points and that grew to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter.

Not only was Lyon hampered by Union’s dead-eye accuracy from deep, but they turned the ball over 29 times that led to 27 Bravette points.

Mati Hagan also finished in double figures for Union County with 15 points and three steals.

Lilly Perry scored 12 of her season-high 14 points in the second half and added three rebounds. Calista Collins came off the bench to score 11 points and pull down five rebounds. Butler and Rose Smith each scored eight points with Smith adding six rebounds and three assists to the stat sheet.
