Will Levis leaning toward coming back to UK for another season

If anyone can understand why a player might put his name into the transfer portal, it’s Will Levis. The Kentucky quarterback did that himself last year when he decided to leave Penn State. He settled on Kentucky, led the Wildcats to a 9-3 record, and now is starting to get ready for the Citrus Bowl.

Levis became a UK fan favorite with his passing, run and exuberance — remember the L’s down in the Louisville end zone each time he scored in the one-sided win over the Cardinals.

Kentucky has already had several players enter the transfer portal and could have more after the bowl game. Kentucky also has several potential additions from the transfer portal like it did last year when it landed Levis, receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, linebacker Jacquez Jones, and offensive tackle Dare Rosenthal — all starters this season.

“I think everyone has their own personal situation and they don’t have to give their reasoning to anybody else. I think it’s very necessary for (anyone thinking of leaving) to do their due diligence and assess their current situation,” Levis said.

“If they think it’s the right decision, that’s the only opinion that matters.”

Levis has a different type decision to make himself. He’s made no secret about his desire to play in the NFL — one reason he transferred to UK was to play for offensive coordinator Liam Coen to get a feel for a NFL-like offense — and could opt to leave UK to put his name into the NFL draft.

“I’ve had a gut feeling all of this season that I’m leaning toward coming back,” Levis said. “But at the same time, I want to go through that process and make sure that I’m not making a rash decision too early.

“I don’t know where it is, but I’m sure there’s a point where they (NFL officials) could tell me I’ll get drafted high and I’d leave.”

  1. This is a crazy world we live in compared to "back in the day" so I would not presume to advise Will Levis on this decision. That said, I offer the following considerations: 1) Levis would be a "developmental" draft pick in the NFL. With his turn overs and pass decision making this year I doubt a NFL team would turn the reins over to him right out of the chute. That means practice squad. I would think Levis could make more money staying with UK in the NIL market than working in some NFL practice squad. This would also allow him time to mature in the QB position. Yes, there is injury risk. 2) If UK has some good recruiting market luck, chances are next year could be better than this year for Levis, thus more favorable NFL exposure. Yes, there is injury risk and the recruiting gods may not favor UK this year. Either way, I think staying at UK one more season would be more financially favorable for Levis.

  2. I too think he needs another season also. However it is what Levis thinks. There for i must look at what if he isn’t. I think alot of top QBs sitting on bench would jump at being the QB at UK. Both Stoops and UK made a very powerful statement about the fugure of UK football. Bama, Gators etc do not seem so big anymore.
