Hoptown Tigers Blast Union County to Even Record

The Hopkinsville boys basketball team put a two-game slide behind them on Friday night, scoring 52 points after halftime to blow out hosts Union County 84-57.

The Tigers even their record at 2-2 and hand the Braves their second straight loss for a 3-3 mark.

Izaiah Manuel knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for Union County while KC Cabiness had five for the Tigers and the teams were tied 12-12 after the 1st quarter.

Union County’s Eli Mackey shouldered the scoring load with seven points in the 2nd, but Cabiness added five more and the Tigers outscored the Braves by six to lead 32-26 at the break.

Bubba Leavell scored seven of his 10 points in the 3rd quarter and Cabiness chipped in five more.  Kaleb Kanipe put up eight points to keep the Braves within striking distance, but the Tigers led by 10 going to the 4th.

Hopkinsville erupted for 28 4th-quarter points, led by 12 from KeiMarion Smith.  After scoring four points in the 1st half, Smith poured in 18 on six 3-pointers in the 2nd to finish with a game-high 22.

Three Tigers posted double-doubles, with Cabiness leading the way with 15 with 12 rebounds.  Daisjaun Mercer finished with 13 points and 10 assists, and Olajuwon White had 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Hopkinsville will host the City of Hopkinsville Toyota Holiday Classic next week, beginning on Monday with a matchup with Northwest, TN.
