The Lyon County Lyons are headed for the semifinals of the consolation bracket at the 2021 Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass. The Lyons used a big third quarter to springboard to a 92-79 win over Belfry.

A night after seeing a double-digit lead evaporate against Ashland Blazer, it appeared it might happen again in the matchup against the Pirates. The Lyons opened hot and bolted out to an early 12 point lead. Belfry would battle back and eventually take the lead. But on this night, the Lyons would say “not tonight.”

The Lyons led 25-14 after the opening quarter. Belfry battled back and by halftime had cut the lead to 43-40 to get back into the contest.

After trailing by three early in the second half at 52-49 as the Pirates’ rally continued, the Lyons unleashed a crushing 21-3 run to close out third quarter to regain control of the game at 70-55.

The Pirates would never seriously threaten over the final eight minutes as the Lyons cruised on out to the 13 point win.

Jackson Shoulders had a monster game for Lyon County, finishing with 36 points and 15 rebounds. The 15 rebounds leaves Shoulders just seven shy of 1,000 for his career. Travis Perry had a big night as well, coming up with 33 points. Jack Reddick also hit double figures with 12 for the Lyons.

The Lyons improve to 4-2 with the win. Lyon County will now move on to face Louisville Trinity in the semfinals of the consolation bracket. The Shamrocks advanced with a 73-38 win over Marion County Sunday evening.

The Lyon County-Trinity game is set for a 6:30pm central time start in the East Gym at Fairdale High School.
