Heritage Christian Takes Runner-Up Spot in Tennessee Holiday Tourney

Heritage Christian Academy went 2-2 over the weekend and finished as runner-up in the Lancaster Christian Holiday Classic in Tennessee.

Despite a field of six teams in the double-elimination tournament, Heritage won two games against KCAA region rival Oak Ridge Christian and lost both of its games to host Lancaster Christian.

Heritage Christian [11-5] will host Beth Haven of Louisville Monday evening

HCA weathered a second half Oak Ridge comeback that sent the game to overtime but held them off in the extra period for the six-point win.

The Warriors would have won in regulation but hit just 2 of 11 free throws in the contest.

Carlos Robles led HCA with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Wills added nine points.

Another low-scoring affair for HCA went to the host school as their deliberate style of play led to a 17-9 halftime lead.  The Warriors made up some ground in the second half but fell short in their fourth loss of the season.

HCA hit 1 of 3 free throws, while the host Tennessee school hit 10 of 17.

Robles again led HCA in scoring with 10 points, and Weston Powell added six points and nine rebounds.

Oak Ridge tried a stall ball approach in their second go-round with HCA in the consolation final, holding the ball for most of the half.

HCA was able to push the tempo in the second half and held Oak Ridge to a season-low 19 points.

Robles scored 12 points, and Wills scored 12.  Trenton Hayes added six points, six assists, and four rebounds.

In the championship game, HCA fell behind early and could never catch up in dropping a 47-29 decision.

Lancaster Christian again controlled the tempo and led 22-12 at halftime.

Zane Yates had eight points and five rebounds for HCA, with Wills adding eight points.
