Caldwell Wrestlers Take Second at Christian County

Caldwell County had four wrestlers finish in the top two and brought home a second-place finish Thursday at the Christian County Invitational.

Colin Walls won the 175-pound class with a 7-2 decision over Union County’s Paxton Ervin. Walls came into the match ranked fourth in the state in the class, while Ervin is ranked sixth.

Riley Johnson remained unbeaten on the season by winning the 132-pound class. Johnson, ranked fifth in the state, defeated No. 9 Jeremy Ray of Union County by fall in the championship match.

Logan Brown finished second in the 106-pound class. Brown, ranked 11th in the state, lost in the title match to top-ranked Jayden Raney of Union County.

Dyan Walls, who is ranked third in the state in the 165-pound class, lost a 9-3 decision in the championship match to No. 14 Gavin Ricketts of Union County.

Cole Sherrill brought home a third-place finish in the 285-pound class. Sherrill, ranked 17th in the state in the weight class, lost to No. 9 Matt Mooney of Paducah Tilghman in the semifinals. Sherrill defeated No. 10 Davis Pike of Union County 1-0 in the third-place match.

Timothy Nichols finished fourth in the 138-pound class.  Ranked fifth in the state in the class by wrestling.com, Nichols lost to top-ranked Eli Peyton of Paducah Tilghman in the semifinals.

In the 150-pound class, Ethan Newsom finished in fourth place with a 2-2 record on the day.

Cofy Walls, the No. 9 wrestler in the state, finished sixth in the 126-pound class. Two of the three losses Walls suffered Thursday was to McCracken County’s Parker McKee, the No. 8 wrestler in the state.

Caldwell County’s 171 points were second to Union County’s 286 points. Paducah Tilghman finished third with 166.5 points.

Coming into the day, Union County was ranked second in the state by wrestling.com while Paducah Tilghman was fourth and Caldwell County ninth.
