Just when it looked like Lyon County had all the momentum, Daviess County went on a big run to nail down a 62-40 triumph in girls’ basketball action Monday at the West Kentucky Hoops Classic in Princeton.

The Lady Lyons faced an uphill battle after falling behind by 16 points in the first half.

Still down 24-12 at halftime, Lyon appeared to scale that hill, drawing even at 37-37 when Calista Collins’ shot from just beyond mid-court found nothing but net at the end of the third period.

But the Lady Lyons (5-6) could never get the lead. Instead, the Lady Panthers (7-5) opened the final frame with 20 unanswered points, going up 57-37 on Ella Payne’s driving layup with just 2:52 left in the game.

Lyon managed just three free throws in the fourth quarter after making its big charge in the third period to tie the game.

Lily Hoagland was named the Player of the Game for Daviess after putting up 16 points and grabbing five rebounds. Katie Mewes had 15 points, five boards and five steals for the Lady Panthers.

Collins was the Player of the Game for Lyon with nine points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Rose Smith added 13 points for Lyon.

The Lady Lyons were without Gracen Wynn, Ella Defew and Lexi Holland in the contest.
