Just when it looked like Caldwell County and Lyon County’s girls were about to battle down to the wire, the Lady Lyons erupted for a 17-0 run to secure a win against their former 5th District rivals.
A three-point play by Parris Gray had pulled the Lady Tigers to within 50-48 with 6:45 left in the contest.
But by the time Caldwell scored again, Lyon’s blitz had the visitors up comfortably at 67-48.
The Lady Lyons (6-6) went on to claim a 70-51 victory Tuesday in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic in Princeton.
Caldwell (2-8) had led by as much as six points in the first half before Lyon came back to knot things 28-28 at halftime.
Lyon led 48-43 through three quarters.
Rose Smith tallied 22 points to lead the Lady Lyons while Calista Collins had 15 points and 19 rebounds to earn Player of the Game honors for Lyon. Lilly Perry added 15 points.
Caldwell got 19 points and 15 rebounds from Katy Smiley, who was the Lady Tigers’ Player of the Game. Parris Gray had nine points while Brylee Butts and Presley McKinney each had eight. Butts added four steals while McKinney had seven boards.
Lyon shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half, making 17 of 34 attempts. Caldwell, meanwhile, connected on just 7 of 36 field goal tries after halftime for 19.4 percent.
The Lady Lyons were also 7 of 15 from 3-point range in the contest while the Lady Tigers made just one of 13 attempts from behind the arc.
Lyon won the battle of the boards 56-43.
Caldwell and Lyon each went 1-1 in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic.
