Travis Perry pumped in 35 points for Lyon County — and the Lyons needed just about all of them.

The Lyon sophomore scored 15 points in the final 5 minutes of the game as his Lyons rallied past Caldwell County for an 83-77 victory in a wild and woolly affair in front of a large crowd at the West Kentucky Hoops Classic in Princeton.

Lyon (5-3) has been tabbed by many to win the 2nd Region and has played a loaded early-season schedule to try to prepare for a postseason run.

Caldwell had won six of its previous seven games entering Tuesday’s contest at the CAB gym and was looking to throw its hat into the ring as a possible challenger.

The Tigers (6-3) looked up to the task for much of the night, starting the game with an 11-2 run lead and taking a 35-27 lead to halftime.

Caldwell twice extended the margin to 12 points in the third period — the last at 47-35 on a bucket by Zavy Bumphus at the 4:05 mark.

Lyon crept back to within 55-49 through three quarters.

The Lyons’ full-court pressure then took full effect in the final frame, forcing Caldwell into numerous turnovers and keying a Lyon rally.

Lyon caught Caldwell at 64-64 on a runout layup by Perry with 5:01 to play.

A quick steal led to another Perry layup and pushed the Lyons in front just 8 seconds later.

Then back-to-back steals resulted in two layups by Jack Reddick.

Perry then buried a long 3-pointer to give Lyon a 73-66 advantage with 4:01 remaining in the contest.

Perry pushed the margin to nine with an even longer 3 at the 2:52 mark. That made it 76-67.

Caldwell battled back to within 80-77 on a Bumphus 3-pointer with 44 seconds left, but Perry canned two free throws at the other end to help hold the Tigers at bay.

Perry was 12 of 22 from the field, including 3 of 8 from 3-point land. He was 8 of 10 at the free throw line. Perry also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out eight assists. He was named Lyon’s Player of the Game.

But Perry wasn’t the only Lyon to put up big numbers. Jack Reddick finished with 21 points while Jackson Shoulders just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

Lyon shot 73.3 percent from the floor in the second half, making 22 of 30 attempts. The Lyons shot 54 percent for the contest.

Caldwell also shot well, connecting on 52.1 percent from the field.

Jabrion Spikes had 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers. Bumphus was named Player of the Game for Caldwell after finishing with 24 points.

The Tigers were 19 of 25 at the free throw line while Lyon was 9 of 12 at the stripe.
