Breanna Daniel knocked down five 3-pointers and Alicia Davis finished with 17 points but the UHA Lady Blazers didn’t generate much other offense in a 50-40 loss to Montgomery Central, TN in the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic at Todd County Central High School on Wednesday.
The Lady Blazers drop their fourth straight game to slip to 1-8 overall. The win is the first of the season for the Indians, improving their record to 1-4.
Davis scored four of the Lady Blazers’ first 10 points and they led 10-5 after a jumper by LeeLee Love. However, Montgomery Central took advantage of 10 UHA fouls to finish the 1st quarter on a 6-0 run.
With the game tied at 12-12, Daniel got hot with nine-straight points on three 3-pointers to give UHA an eight-point advantage. Her fourth 3 of the frame came with :09 on the clock and pushed the Lady Blazers to a 26-18 halftime lead.
UHA only scored two points over the first six minutes of the 2nd half, allowing the Indians to surge to a 36-28 lead. Amaryia Bass scored on a layup and Daniel connected on another 3-pointer to close the quarter and pull the Lady Blazers to within three points.
The Lady Blazers trailed by a single point after a Davis layup with 3:25 to play, but they wouldn’t score again and the Indians closed on a 9-0 spurt for the final margin.
UHA will return to the court on Monday when they face Heritage Christian Academy at home in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
