Lady Colonels Pick Up Win at Warren Central Holiday Tourney

Coming off a really tough loss to state powerhouse Dixie Heights Tuesday, the Christian County Lady Colonels were looking for some positive momentum in their consolation bracket semifinal game in the Vanous Lloyd Christmas Classic at Warren Central. The Lady Colonels were able to get that accomplished with a 45-35 win over the McLean County Lady Cougars.

Christian County took the early lead in the game and was able to control the afternoon against the Lady Cougars. Christian County used a balanced effort in the opening quarter, with four different Lady Colonels scoring, as they took an 11-6 lead.

The Lady Colonels limited McLean County to just one made field goal in the second quarter as they extended the lead out to 24-15 at the half. Free throws kept the Lady Cougars in the game as they knocked down 7 of 8 at the line in the quarter.

Christian County got a big second quarter from Evanna McGregor, who came up with six points in the quarter.

As the second half began, it was McLean County’s defense that brought the Lady Cougars roaring back. McLean County would limit Christian County to just three points in the third quarter as suddenly the Lady Cougars were within two at the end of three, 27-25.

But that would be the end of the rally. Christian County’s NeVaeh Day scored 11 points over the final 8 minutes as the Lady Colonels fended off the Lady Cougars rally and took the 10 point win.

Day led Christian County with 13 points on the afternoon. Destinee Catlett-Watkins chipped in with seven for the Lady Colonels.

McLean County’s Bree Frailley led all scorers in the game with 16 points.

Christian County improves to 4-6 with the win. The Lady Colonels will play in the consolation bracket championship game Thursday afternoon at Warren Central.
