The Lyon County Lyons may still be looking for the number of that bus they ran into Thursday afternoon at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Olentangy Liberty put up 62 points in the second half as they ran away from the Lyons for a 99-58 win in the Sportscenter Shootout.

Despite only four points each from Travis Perry and Jackson Shoulders in the first half, the Lyons were still hanging around at 37-28. That after the Lyons had trailed by as many as 16 points in the second quarter.

Olentangy Liberty’s Cooper Davis was the story of the opening half, ringing up 23 points against the Lyon County defense.

Liberty effectively ended the game early in the second half, quickly extending the lead and limiting the Lyons scoring opportunities on the defensive end of the court. The Lyons also lost leading scorer Travis Perry to a facial injury early in the third quarter. Perry would finish the game with just four points for the Lyons. The third quarter would come to an end with Olentangy Liberty holding a 68-50 lead.

As the lead grew early in the 4th quarter, Coach Ryan Perry elected to give some of his younger players some extended playing time. Olentangy Liberty would rip off a 22-0 run during the final quarter as they pulled away for the 41 point win.

Jackson Shoulders would finish the game with 20 points to lead Lyon County, 16 of them coming in the second half.

Liberty’s Cooper Davis led all scorers in the game with 38 points.

The loss drops the Lyons to 5-4 as they conclude the 2021 portion of the schedule. The Lyons will return to action Tuesday night when they host Crittenden County in a big 5th District showdown.
