Offensive struggles in the second quarter would be the undoing for the Christian County Lady Colonels in the consolation bracket final of the Vanous Lloyd Christmas Tournament Thursday afternoon. Jackson County would limit the Lady Colonels to just six points in the quarter as the Lady Generals would go on to pick up the 57-44 win.

The two teams battled through a tight first quarter. Jackson County would end up holding a 10-9 lead after the first eight minutes thanks in great part to the play of Abby Gilbert, who scored six points in the quarter.

Christian County had the chance to have the early lead, but the Lady Colonels would connect on only three of eight from the free-throw line in the first quarter.

Jackson County’s defense then clamped down in the second quarter. On the offensive end, the Lady Generals warmed up from outside the arc and knocked down three 3-pointers. Jackson County would extend their one-point lead out to 27-15 at the break.

Abby Gilbert then took over for Jackson County in the third quarter, scoring 14 of the Lady Generals 16 points. Christian County got a big quarter from NeVaeh Day, who connected for 9 points in the quarter. The Lady Generals’ lead was at 43-29 when the quarter ended.

The Lady Colonels would outscore Jackson County in the final quarter, but could not chew up the Lady Generals’ lead as they held on for the 13 point win.

NeVaeh Day had a big game for Christian County, finishing with 18 points. Anaysia Bagwell added 11. Mikayah Killebrew was also in double figures with 10.

Jackson County’s Abby Gilbert led all scorers in the game with 28 points. Kylee Shannon added 8 points for the Lady Generals.
