Balanced Bravettes Bounce Trigg From Class 2A Sectionals

Union County ended the first half with a 13-2 run that was part of a larger 27-3 stretch that helped them beat the Trigg County Lady Wildcats 66-35 in the Class 2A sectional Saturday in Morganfield.

Trigg County held their own with the Bravettes for a quarter and a half. Olivia Noffsinger’s 3-pointer got Trigg to within one point at 20-19 with 4:43 left. But Trigg’s inability to take care of the basketball haunted them all game as seven second quarter turnovers led to 10 Union County points and allowed them to take a 33-21 lead at halftime.

Union County kept its foot on the gas for the third quarter, scoring the first 10 points to go up 43-21. Trigg County got as close as 17 points on Noffsinger’s 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter, but Union County stretched its lead to much as 32 points in the final frame.

For the game, Union County scored 33 points off 24 Trigg County turnovers. Union’s stifling man-to-man defense bothered Trigg throughout the contest.

Noffsinger led Trigg County with 14 points. She was the only Lady Wildcat to score in double figures. Marleigh Reynolds added nine points and four rebounds, and Audrey Alexander had seven points and five boards.

Union County put four players into double figures led by Reese Hagan, who knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. She added nine rebounds as Union County outhustled Trigg on the glass 29-23. Union had 14 offensive rebounds that turned into 15 second-chance points.

Madison Morris added 13 points and five rebounds.

Union County improved to 7-7 with its third straight win over Trigg County. The Bravettes will play Hopkins County Central in the championship game of the Class 2A sectionals. The Lady Storm beat Calloway County 50-41 in the other semifinal Saturday.

Trigg County drops to 7-6 and will look to bounce back from its worst loss of the season Monday against Madisonville Monday night at Wildcat Gym.
