Caldwell’s Girls Advance in All A Classic by Routing Dawson

Caldwell County pulled away in the second quarter on the way to a 64-34 triumph at Dawson Springs in the girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic Monday night.

Down 10-9 midway through the first quarter, the Lady Tigers closed the stanza with eight straight points to go up 17-10.

Caldwell (3-9 overall, 1-0 district) then outscored the Lady Panthers 20-7 in the second period to get to halftime with a 37-17 advantage.

Dawson (1-7, 0-4) got no closer than 17 points after the break.

Caldwell’s biggest lead of the night came with the final 30-point margin in the regional quarterfinal contest.

Parris Gray had 17 points while Katy Smiley finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Tigers. Brylee Butts added 10 points.

Dawson was led by Madelyn Huddleston’s eight points.

The Lady Tigers have taken their last seven matchups with the Lady Panthers and 22 of the last 23. Caldwell holds an 86-10 advantage all-time.

Caldwell’s girls advance to the All A regional semifinals Thursday at Lyon County. The Lady Tigers will face Livingston Central at 6:00 that night.

The Lady Cardinals (3-6) defeated Fort Campbell 57-21 in first round action on Monday.

Caldwell is 3-3 in its last six games after opening the season with six straight losses.
