Free Throws Carry Ohio County Past Lady Colonels

Getting it done at the free-throw line in the 4th quarter was the story for the Ohio County Lady Eagles Friday night. Ohio County knocked down 11 of 17 at the line over the final eight minutes of the game as they took a hard-fought 51-46 win over the Christian County Lady Colonels.

Christian County entered the final quarter holding a one-point lead and outscored the Lady Eagle 13-10 from the field, but the Lady Colonels only went to the line twice in the final quarter as Ohio County rallied to come from behind for the victory.

The game was close throughout.

Ohio County held an 11-9 lead after the opening quarter. Christian County’s defense held the Lady Eagles to just two points in the second quarter as the Lady Colonels took an 18-17 lead at the break.

The two teams stayed neck-and-neck through the third quarter, with the Lady Colonels still clinging to a one point lead at 31-30 heading into the final eight minutes of the game.

Mikayah Killebrew was the only Lady Colonel to reach double figures. She finished the night with 11 points. Caitlin Steele added nine for Christian County.

Heaven Vanover paced Ohio County with 15 points. Camryn Kennedy added 13 for the Lady Eagles.

Christian County falls to 5-8 with the loss. The Lady Colonels are back in action Saturday afternoon when they host defending region champion Henderson County.
