Two nights after scoring 26 points in a loss to Marshall County, Trigg County answered with a season-high point total in a 72-63 district win over Livingston Central at Wildcat Gym.

The game was rescheduled from December due to inclement weather.

Tyler Ahart set the tone early for Trigg County, knocking down six first-half 3-pointers. The Wildcats scored the game’s first 12 points but took their foot off the gas. Livingston responded to grab a 15-13 lead just before the end of the quarter. However, it was their last lead of the game.

Four of Ahart’s six 3-pointers came in the second quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Cardinals 20-10 to lead 36-25.

In the third quarter, the Wildcats pushed the ball inside where Khyran Vaughn scored 13 of his 19 points.  He also finished with 11 rebounds.

Despite suiting up just eight players and missing its coach due to COVID, Livingston Central rallied from a 19-point deficit to cut the Trigg lead to nine points late.

Max Downey scored 40 points with 27 coming in the second half. The senior guard hit 16 of 24 shots and five 3-pointers.  He also had nine rebounds and five assists.

Ahart and Jhaden Vaughn both scored 20 points for Trigg County. Ahart finished with six threes, and Vaughn added 13 points and five assists.

The Wildcats shot 45-percent from the field and scored 22 points off 16 Livingston turnovers. Trigg has won five straight over Livingston and 15 of their last 20 matchups.

Trigg County travels to Daviess County Saturday, while Livingston Central hosts Union County Friday.
