Josh Nichols was surprised with a retirement reception Saturday afternoon and learned the soccer field at the Trigg County Recreation Complex will be named in his honor.

Nichols stepped down after last season with 192 wins and 11 district championships on his head-coaching resume.

Trigg County had undefeated regular seasons in 2010 and 2012 and finished a region runners-up both seasons. Several players from those teams were at Saturday’s gathering.

Superintendent Bill Thorpe credited Nichols’ 19 seasons as a head coach, noting his tenure was more than all of the current head coaches in the athletic department combined.

Trigg County Judge-executive Hollis Alexander also recognized Nichols’ achievements as Trigg County head coach and said pending expected approval by the fiscal court, the soccer field at the complex will be named Josh Nichols Field.

The school leases the soccer field from the county each season for exclusive use.

When he stepped down, Nichols’ 192 wins ranked sixth among active coaches in the state and is 25th overall in state history.

  1. Congratulations, Coach! Wish I had known – I would have been there! Brad would have been there too if he was in town. He has never forgotten you and the life lessons you taught him.
