Late Free Throws Carry Daviess County Past Lady Colonels

Going into the final quarter down by five, the Daviess County Lady Panthers rallied to get by the Christian County Lady Colonels Tuesday night. Lily Hoagland scored 14 of her 16 points, including going 12 of 14 at the free-throw line, in the final quarter as Daviess County came back for the 57-53 win.

The game was a close one throughout. Using a balanced effort, the Lady Colonels took a 17-12 lead after the opening eight minutes of the game. The Lady Panthers Adylan Ayer scored seven points in the second quarter as Daviess County battled back to tie the game at 23-23 going into the half.

The battle continued as the two teams returned to the court in the third quarter. With Anaysia Bagwell connecting for nine points, the Lady Colonels would get back to the front, leading 36-31 going into the final quarter, setting the stage for Hoagland’s big quarter.

Much like their loss at Ohio County, an opponent’s free throw opportunities late in the game came back to haunt the Lady Colonels. Daviess County knocked down 21 of 26 free throws in the fourth quarter alone to help secure the win.

Christian County was paced by Destinee Catlett-Watkins with 14 points. Anaysia Bagwell added 13 for the Lady Colonels.

Daviess County’s Adylan Ayer led all scorers with 23 points. Lily Hoagland finished the night with 16 for the Lady Panthers.

Christian County falls to 5-10 with the loss, which is their third straight.

Daviess County improves to 12-5.
