Derrin Boyd Has 18 as Georgetown Rolls at Bethel

Former Caldwell County standout Derrin Boyd scored a game-high 18 points as No. 17-ranked Georgetown rolled to an 80-62 victory over Bethel on Saturday in McKenzie, Tenn.

Georgetown (16-2, 9-2 Mid-South Conference) made 11-of-21 first-half 3-pointers, while Bethel (10-10, 2-10) was 0-for-12 in the opening half from deep.

The Tigers opened the game on a 10-2 run that featured eight points from Boyd, including two 3-pointers.

Georgetown ran out to a 31-8 lead on the way to a 53-24 halftime advantage.

The Tigers led by as much as 31 points in the second half before the Wildcats cut the margin down to 16 points late.

Boyd was one of four Tigers to score in double digits. Drew Lamont added 14, and Seth Johnson and Kyran Jones each pitched in 11.

Boyd, who is playing as a freshman again this season, was 4 of 7 from 3-point range. He also grabbed six rebounds and had three assists.

The Tigers will return home Monday night to host No. 10 Thomas More University in a makeup game, and will play at home again on Thursday against Pikeville as part of a five-game homestand.
