Lady Wildcats Shoot Way Past Caldwell for Third Straight Win in Series

2-7-hyde

On a night when Caldwell County opened the game cold from the field, Trigg County took advantage and built a double-digit first half lead on its way to a 69-53 win at Wildcat Gym.

The 16-point win is Trigg‘s largest over the Lady Tigers since a 73-39 win in 1990.

Caldwell didn’t have an answer for Trigg County post player Marleigh Reynolds. The lone senior on the Trigg County roster scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. She scored 10 points in each of the first two periods and finished 14 of 19 from the field. On the glass, 11 of her 14 rebounds were on the offensive end as the Lady Wildcats had 20 second-chance points.

Caldwell led early 10-7 but the play of Reynolds inside and Caldwell’s inability to string made shots together saw the Lady Wildcats use a 27-6 run to take an 18-point first half lead. Caldwell opened 4 of 25 from the field in falling behind.

Caldwell got as close as 10 points in the opening minute of the third quarter but a 12-2 Trigg run late in the third quarter opened the game up and Caldwell never get closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Olivia Noffsinger joined Reynolds in double figures with 20 points and seven assists. Kara Hyde and Tajah Grubbs combined to hit five 3-pointers with Hyde adding eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Caldwell County finished with a 29% shooting clip from the field but kept it close in the first half thanks to their free-throw shooting. They finished the game hitting 13 of 18.

Trigg County made just 14 of 30 free throws but seven 3-pointers made helped them make up the difference.

Monday’s win marked the first time since 1989-91 that Trigg has won three straight against Caldwell County. After winning 17 straight games in the series, Caldwell has dropped four of its last five meetings with Trigg. However, Caldwell still leads the all-time series 83-24.

Parris Gray led the Lady Tigers with 11 points and Presley McKinney chipped in eight.

Trigg County will travel to Dawson Springs Tuesday, while Caldwell County will host Madisonville Thursday.
