Trigg Takes Control in First Half of 62-41 Win at Dawson

Trigg County won its third game in its last four outings, pulling ahead in the first half and going on for a 62-41 victory at Dawson Springs Monday night.

The teams traded leads early and the game was tied 9-9 midway through the opening quarter.

However, Trigg scored the final nine points of the first period to go up 18-9 and never trailed again.

The Wildcats (12-10) extended the margin to double figures in the second quarter and went to halftime with a 33-17 advantage.

Trigg led 46-30 through three quarters.

Dawson (3-20) got only as close as 10 points in the fourth period before Trigg pushed the final margin out to 21 points.

Khyran Vaughn and Jhaden Vaughn combined for 30 points for the Wildcats, with 16 and 14, respectively. Jerimyah Shearer had 11 points and Tyler Ahart added eight.

Dilyn Skinner led the Panthers with 21 points. Montgomery Johnston added 11.

Trigg County head coach Chad Burgett was recognized before the game and presented a plaque by the Panthers. Burgett was Dawson’s head coach when the school won its last district championship in 1997.

The Wildcats will host Christian Fellowship School on Tuesday.

The Panthers will next entertain McLean County on Thursday.
