It will be one of those “what if” games for the Christian County Colonels. After leading by eight going into the final quarter, the Colonels fell behind and then had to rally, with that rally falling just short in a 44-42 loss to Webster County Friday night.

Christian County led 31-23 heading into the fourth, only to see Webster County come storming back to get to the lead and take what appeared to be a comfortable lead into the waning moments. The Colonels fought back to get close but the Trojans managed to sneak away with the two-point win.

The Christian County defense had been the story through much of the night. The Colonels limited the Trojans to seven points in the first, nine in the second, and seven in the third as they built the eight-point lead.

Derrell Bateman and Breland Morrison did the yeoman’s work on offense for Christian County in the first three quarters. The two sophomores combined to score 23 of the Colonels’ 31 points.

But then the Webster County duo of Bradin Nelson and Deshawn Murphy got going and led the Trojans back into the game. Murphy scored 11 points, while Nelson added 10 in the final quarter as the Trojans battled back to the lead and then held on for the win.

Breland Morrison topped the scoring column for Christian County with 14 points. Derrell Bateman added 12.

Deshawn Murphy led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Bradin Nelson finished with 13 for the Trojans.

Christian County falls to 8-19 on the season. The Colonels kick off the final week of the season Monday night on the road at Hopkinsville.

Webster County improves to 12-14. They host Caldwell County Saturday night.
