A short-handed Todd County Central girls basketball team was handed a 45-point loss at Logan County back on January 21, but the Lady Rebel team on the floor for Friday night’s rematch in Elkton looked nothing like the group that suffered that lopsided defeat to the Lady Cougars.

Instead, the Lady Rebels drew energy from a large Homecoming night crowd to lead throughout the 1st half, but a cold 3rd quarter tripped them up in a 55-51 setback.

Alexis Taylor paced the Lady Rebels with five points early on, and they led 11-6 after Jamaia Coleman connected on a short jumper. Lucy Chester’s bucket with 1:38 left in the quarter gave Todd Central a 15-8 advantage, but the Lady Cougars scored the last five points to trim the margin to a basket.

The game was tied three times in the 2nd quarter before Logan County took its first lead at 21-19 with four minutes to play in the half. However, this time it was the Lady Rebels’ turn to close on a run, with Abby Williams knocking down a 3-pointer with :34 left to give them a 27-24 lead at the break.

Unfortunately, that momentum didn’t carry into the 2nd half as the Lady Rebels managed only four points in the 3rd quarter. Gracie Borders scored eight points for the Lady Cougars, and they led 40-31 with a quarter to play.

Logan County led by as many as 12 in the 4th, but the Lady Rebels kept plugging away and were back within six after a Chester putback with 1:05 to play.

Coleman cut it to three with a 3-pointer, and the Lady Cougars answered with a pair of free throws with :33 left. Coleman somehow got a scoop shot in the lane to go down and the Lady Rebels called a timeout.

After a foul, Logan County hit one of two free throws for a 4-point edge, but a turnover on Todd Central’s ensuing possession ended its hope of a comeback. The Lady Rebels didn’t do themselves any favors at the charity stripe, finishing 4/10 in the 4th quarter.

Coleman’s 18 led all scorers, with Williams and Alexis Taylor also reaching double figures for the Lady Rebels.

Gracie Borders led Logan County with 17, followed by Emily Borders with 12, and Kadyn Costello with 11.

Todd County Central will return to its home court on Tuesday for a visit from South Warren.
