A big start to the second half by Victory Baptist was a bit too much for the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons to overcome on the road Tuesday night. Victory broke open a close game and ran the lead out to 21 points at the end of the third quarter on their way to a 55-35 win, their second over the Lady Falcons in the past week.
Behind the play of Ashley Prater, Victory Baptist had been able to hold the lead much of the night going into the break. Victory was up 12-6 after the opening quarter, with the lead at 23-15 at the half. Prater then erupted for 12 points in the third as Victory grabbed control of the game.
Hope Balzeski and Marlie Fanning battled to keep the Lady Falcons in range over the first 16 minutes. The pair combined to score ten points in the first half.
Cold shooting kept Fort Campbell from being even closer at the half, as the Lady Falcons connected on 5 of 16 from the field.
Coming out to start the second half, the Lady Falcons just could not find a way to slow down Prater and that would turn out to be the difference in the game.
Marlie Fanning led the Fort Campbell effort, finishing with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hope Balzeski had a huge game with 10 points and 21 rebounds for the Lady Falcons. Rosella Rajj also had double figures rebounds with 10.
Fort Campbell pulled down a total of 52 rebounds in the game, 25 of them on the offensive glass. However, turnovers were an issue for the Lady Falcons as they had 30 miscues.
Ashley Prater led Victory Baptist with 30 points on the night. Jalyn Sanders added nine.
Fort Campbell falls to 1-17 on the season. The Lady Falcons will close out the regular season Saturday on the road at Fort Knox.
