Hoptown Girls Upend 20-Win Logan County 54-49

Hopkinsville’s girls overcame an eight-point deficit in the second half to knock off a 20-win team Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.

Logan County looked to be taking control of the contest when it scored the first six points of the third period to go up 30-22.

But the Lady Tigers rallied to tie things at 37-37 entering the fourth quarter, then went on to claim a 54-49 victory.

Hoptown won the game without having a single player score in double figures. However, Shiyah Forte, Donisha Flowers and Lataijha Cherry each had nine points while Lachia Pendleton finished with eight.

Logan (20-11) got 18 points from Emily Borders and 10 from Kadyn Costello.

Hopkinsville used a 13-3 run to open the fourth period and build a 50-40 advantage.

But the Lady Tigers could not put away the Lady Cougars until the final minute.

Logan scored nine straight points to make it a one-point game, 50-49, when Costello made the second of two free throws with 41 seconds to play.

Hopkinsville got two free throws from Flowers with 37 seconds left to go up 52-49.

Forte put the game away for the Lady Tigers when she scored inside with just 19 second remaining, making it 54-49.

Hoptown’s girls have won their last three games and five of their last six.

The Lady Tigers conclude regular-season play on Thursday when they visit Crittenden County.
